Interested
in helping to maintain our local woodland for the benefit of everybody?
We started around
five years ago following a suggestion from a local resident that
it would be good to form a local group to work in Dronley Wood,
our local Forestry Commission woodland, just a few hundred yards
from the village. The wood is only about fifty hectares, with an
open wayleave through the centre, and is home to herons, buzzards
and other birds, deer and red squirrels. It is much used by local
people.
The group carries out maintenance work on the paths,
and some clearing and planting. In the past couple of years we have
opened up a new path which has been a great success and have plans
for another.
A map of the paths will soon be available.
Our aim is to improve and conserve the woodland
for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors and to conserve
the woodland wildlife.
We also take on other projects around Auchterhouse
such as tree planting along the Brae.
We liaise with the Forestry Commission locally
and with the Auchterhouse Community Council. News of activities
and of our AGM appear in the Argus local newsletter.
Workparties
We meet for monthly work sessions in Dronley Wood on the 2nd Sat (10a.m. to noon) of each month through the winter from September.
Fit volunteers will be most welcome.
Join us – as often or as occasionally
as you like!
